Why you don't take your children out in public: Lesson #1

10:35 PM

Parenthood has been a complete joy so far. At least most of it.

Anthony and I had our first lesson in reasons never to leave the house with your child the other night. We went out shopping and at one of the stores I stopped to feed Tucker. When I got done feeding him he, in his usual manner, left a little something for me in his diaper. Anthony being the great dad that he is said he would take care of it so I could finish my shopping at that store, and proceeded to very carefully set everything up to change T's diaper in the dressing room. He put out the waterproof 18x30 inch mat; got the diaper out, opened up, and carefully placed under T so that it would be ready; and armed himself with wipes. As you are already anticipating, this was somehow not enough precautionary measures. Right after Anthony got Tucker's diaper off, Tucker rewarded him with an EXPLOSION that blew the "carefully placed diaper underneath" out of the path to stop anything and plastered the dressing room and Anthony with you know what.

Since I had escaped the whole plastering, I immediately saw the humor in it, even through the embarrassment I knew was to follow when I would have to tell the worker at the store what had happened. Anthony was not a quick to see the humor, and not-so-politely asked me to stop laughing.

We cleaned up as best we could, and left the store quickly.

Looking back I am not sure what we could learn from that incident, as all the precautionary measures that I am aware of were taken. I guess the only lesson to be learned is that your children have a unique way of humbling you, and that sometimes the only thing you can do is laugh.
